The King City Scrappers struggled at the plate today against Immigrants hurler Alvin Cascio, who shackled them on 4 hits while hurling a complete game shutout. "What can you say? We just stunk," said the Scrappers skipper in his postgame comments. "But tomorrow will be another day . . . I hope."
Cascio finished the game with 11 strikeouts and 1 base on balls in an excellent mound performance. "He pitched real well," his manager said. "Alvin made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
A consistent starter so far this season, Alvin Cascio knows he has the talent to win in the league. He has crafted a 14-8 mark with a 1.85 ERA and tossed 208.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .189 against him and he has rung up 134 strikeouts.

"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage. Well, good pitching also beats bad batting. In his postgame interview the King City manager said, "Robert Shepler made us look real bad today. He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all four pitches. Everything was sinking." Shepler struck out 10, walked 4, and allowed only 3 hits as the Minneapolis Sea Dogs whitewashed the King City Scrappers.
Shepler has worked hard to get to here. This year the rookie hurler has compiled a 14-5 mark, 2.34 ERA, made 22 starting appearances, fanned 136 batters, issued 52 bases on balls, tossed 173 innings and held the opposition to a .169 batting average.

It was a sensational day at the plate for Russell Murrin. The Minneapolis left fielder was pure misery for the King City pitching staff. He left them shell-shocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.
